I started my training career almost 20 years ago working with a wonderful young woman and her new puppy. I was so excited to have discovered clicker training that I wanted to share it with the world! And what could be better than playing with a puppy, socializing it, and yes, teaching beginning behaviors using positive methods.
Puppies are really a lot of fun to train. But that is only part of the reason I offer puppy classes. I know just how important early socialization and training can be. Early efforts can help puppies:
-
Learn how to get along with other dogs and not be afraid of people.
-
Get accustomed to handling and restraint—a skill that can help with grooming, vet visits and more.
-
Learn to handle a little bit of excitement and stress without falling apart.
-
Become well adjusted canine members of our community.
-
Get a jump start on basic life skills such as sit, down and wait.
Starting early with puppies can help prevent problems later in life. Plus it can help make the puppy in front of you easier to live with right now. (Oh, did I mention along with being a lot of fun, puppies are a crazy amount of work!)
And, if you happen to know of any folks with new pups, please let them know about my puppy classes—they are great fun for the pups and people alike!
